ONTARIO HIGH SCHOOL
Is one of eight comprehensive high schools in the Chaffey Joint Union High School District. Current school enrollment is approximately 2,700 in grades 9-12. Ontario offers a wide variety of Advanced Placement, college preparatory and elective courses. The English, Math, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Science, and Fine Arts Departments offer a variety of AP courses as well as college prep classes accepted for entry into UC and CSU schools. Ontario provides excellent vocational opportunities for its students: Auto Tech and Masonry have community involvement programs that send students to internships and community service projects. Performing and fine arts have excellent programs such as band, choir, dance, and art courses; business classes teach keyboarding and computer skills.
Involved and supportive parents and community members are key components to student success and provide vital support for school programs. Ontario High School encourages parental and community involvement and provides a wide variety of participatory activities. Active parent and community groups are: OHS School Site Council, ELAC, GATE, AVID, WASC Leadership Team and Band and Athletic Boosters. Parent involvement is also cultivated via events such as Report Card Night, Parent Nights, Parent Forums and Parent Academy. Parental involvement is further enhanced through newsletters, in English and Spanish, and other informational publications and through the communications of individual teachers, counselors, security, and administration.
Ontario High School was built in 1967 and the campus is housed on 40 acres in a residential area of Ontario. The school has eight permanent classroom buildings, along with 34 portable classrooms that comprise the campus. There are a total of 110 separate classrooms, an auditorium, cafeteria/multipurpose room, library, gym, locker room facilities, two pools and well equipped performing and fine arts and vocational facilities and classrooms. Ontario High's facilities went through an extensive modernization project in 1998. Ontario High's campus and grounds are well maintained and very pleasing to the eye. The grounds crew is second to none and the beautiful and clean campus reflects their hard work. The updated facility is linked to digital technology and provides students the opportunity to access a technical learning environment designed for student success. A new marquis punctuates the appearance of the high school. In addition, approximately 230 lap top computers have been added for classroom use in addition to existing labs. The fields, aquatic facilities and gymnasium are well maintained and used by both OHS and community organizations for youth sports and recreation. Ontario High School is committed to providing students a clean and safe environment which fosters leaning and promotes student responsibility and citizenship.
